Thonnur Triathlon 2

A triathlon race comprises of three sports – Swimming, Bicycling and Running. Exciting to race 1 sport? Imagine three of them together! Triathlon as a sport is relatively new in India but seems to be fast gaining popularity. We currently have multiple Triathlon events in India with some level of international participation in some of the bigger ones like the Goa Triathlon! We also seem to have a community of Ironman participants and aspirants starting to form in the country. We’ve run multiple sessions by Triathlon experts at the Specialized concept store and even been an active part of the Specialized Embassy Triathlon, it’s quite exciting to be at the very beginning of this sport in the country.

This month saw the 6th edition of Tri Thonnur 2017 and we had to check it out. There were multiple events this year
– Triathlons (Swim + Bike + Run) in the Sprint, Olympic and Half Ironman distances
– a Duathlon (Bike + Run)
– an Aquathon (Swim + Run)

The Thonnur Tri had about 350 participants and was set in a fantastic scenic location. Mysore is blessed to have a lake like this which is perfect for swimming and will definitely grow this sport! The event execution seemed flawless and participants seem to have enjoyed the event. Although participation was a bit lower than last year, maybe because of incessant rains in the morning and the previous evening, it was unanimous that the routes laid out for the run/bike leg were fantastic and way better this year around.

Having executed bike races in Bangalore, we know how tough it is to pull off quality events. Thonnur Tri seemed next level with so many events running simultaneously and big numbers hitting the waters.

Great going Ajit Thandur and team! Loved the event.

Overall, a definite must do for any aspiring triathlete. If you live in Bangalore, make it a picnic and cheer on the participants next time around! It’s a great idyllic location and lovely to spend a day out here. The tri event also seemed perfect for beginners as there are multiple beginner-friendly events and safety seems to be a high priority. Perfect to get your feet wet, literally!
