India’s premier international 9 day mountain bike stage race in the pristine northern state of Sikkim. From March 20th-29th 2009, racers will journey through the foothills of the Himalayas, always within site of the third highest mountain in the world. For nine days participants will celebrate the human spirit in harmony with nature’s beauty by covering 430 km and 14,000 meters of climbing, all while winding through a land that is preserved from much of the modern world by it’s geography and cultural history.

With countries of Nepal to the west, Tibet bordering the north and Bhutan on the east, Sikkim’s isolation has created a unique existence separate from the rest of India. Sikkim has one of the most diverse ranges of climates in all of India with subtropical forests in the south to high alpine in the north. English is the official language, but the diversity of the surrounding countries guarantees visitors will experience a truly multicultural visit.

Its going to be a daily mix of single track, village back roads and jeep tracks that meander through uncharted foothills of the highest mountains in the world. Each day will end at a base camp in a selected spot to showcase the rich culture and beauty of Sikkim. For twelve days racers needs will be taken care of as they discover the magical beauty of India’s paradise state. The stage race is designed with short but challenging days to allow participants to explore the country in a way long days on the bike never could.
