Fun Sustainable Transport
the Killer ride :)
The ride was a killer. :)
We made a mistake of not stopping for a quick breakfast and some of us paid for it with cramps and dehydration.
Moral of the story – eat sensibly before you leave for a ride. And during a ride, eat before you feel hungry and drink before you feel thirsty. If you are riding hard and start feeling pangs of hunger and thirst you are already going downhill. There is no looking back.
The terrain has changed quite a bit from the last time we rode this route. Parts of the route are getting tarred and some bits which used to be fantastic off road material have been converted into fantastic fast riding roads :) But the good climbs remain the same and this is what the route is all about – climbing.
Some stats for the ride
Distance: 115 km approx
Time taken: 6Hr 37 mins
Average: 17.5 Kmph

Fantastic ride. I knew was missing something great. But was short on brownies at home, hence had to score them, since I had also taken on the KRS backwater ride a weekago. Rohan -Great pics. I specially liked pic#7 its amazing(the one you have taken on the ride with your back wheel partially in the still). Savanduraga is very nostalgic for me,as we used to bike race around here on our RX100 during collage days.

yup. It was a fantastic ride. Missed both you guys ! Navdeep - thats a fantastic line :) There were times when I was wondering what the guys on the Tour must be going thru in the mountains ! Whew ... amazing. Ragz. Thank you. I was kinda biking and holding the cam near the wheel for that shot :) in motion ;)

Hmmm. Killer? Sounds a like a strong adjective attached to Savandurga. I did the Savandurga via Magadi road and returned thro Machinbele dam route. Did not feel it as tough as Nandi... But the route was beautiful... had rustic, village setting. Savandurga seems to be a moderate toughie... your graph shows that. Well, what GPS did you use to collect the evelation profile? Nice photos, esp. the one with the rear wheel (half) and u guys riding...

yup. It was a killer for various reasons - by 10am its kinda hot as hell :) - really strong head winds - bad planning and not eating on the ride (which is why I wrote a new post titled -bonking) :) - we pedaled hard initially but yea, the route was awesome and its a brilliant ride :) I have a garmin eTrek. Its a small basic GPS which costs some 99$.

Yeah Savandurga is not supposed to be all that tough - on my last Savandurga ride, I averaged 20kmph! But I found it to be far more difficult this time around. It was the heat and head winds and a whole lotta things... basically not our day!
