BumsOnTheSaddle on TOI
Nikhil and I, with a few Trek bikes
We were recently interviewed by The Times of India on the High End bicycle scene in India.
You can read the article on Page 18 – New Business section, Times of India or read it on the TOI e-paper.
My guess is that the biking scene here is gonna explode in a bit. Well, with all these new brands coming in and with more and more folks looking to pick up a nice bike, looks like its heading there.
Very nice :)
A scan of the Article, Thanks Deepak

Hi Nikhil, Rohan, Nice goggles !!! By the way, just realized that you chaps missed out on plugging in for a dedicated bike lane all across Bangalore. That is one sure shot way to encourage biking scene in Bangalore. Why don't you call up your contact in TOI and tell him/her to push for a bicycle lane. Amitabh

Thanks Amitabh :) Yeah at some point we want to start to push for Bicycle lanes etc. Basically make Bangalore more bicycle friendly. Apart from TOI do you have any other ideas ?

I hope you remember me from the comment I made under your recent post in the LiveJournal Bangalore community. Forget dedicated bicycle lanes, I understand there are roads in Bombay where bicycles are technically banned, because they hinder the movement of cars. It should be the other way round, as in many European cities. However, if we can motivate even 5% of car/bike owners to pedal to work we can attain critical mass. The trick is to get a few notable names to lead by example. Somehow I can't picture Mr NR Narayana Murthy biking to work, even if he's a champion of simplicity. Salman Khan, on the other hand, has been spotted often on his bicycle in Bombay, but then he hasn't exactly been role-model material in other ways. By the way, I've become enthused enough to buy a Trek. I considered Firefox and Raleigh, but it was the matt black finish of the Trek 3700 that really floored me. I understand the equipment and build quality are better too. I considered the 4300 as well, but I think I'll go for the entry-level version because I don't really know how feasible the whole exercise is and I don't want to have the bike end up as a show-piece (though I must admit it will look damn good on the wall!) Bombay is perhaps the least bike-friendly city in India, thanks to insane commuting distances, narrow roads and chronic traffic jams. I wish I was in Bangalore so I could drop in at BOTS to get a look and feel of the bike. Let's hope the guys in the Bombay outlet know their stuff, especially when it comes to after-sales service, because I'm not terribly mechanically inclined. I pulled my Hercules roadster to pieces 22 years ago and needed a friend's help to put it together again!
