Hey!!! never knew you owned a shop?! i vaguely remember you talking about this while in London, c'mon man, you could tell us! Anyways, i went around your site, and it is just too good, very very very professional.

Cool! The bike stands initiative is a very useful one. Have set myself a 5-days-in-a-row for a walk/jog target at the end of which shall reward myself with a Trek.

Why don't you do a cycling event, where we cut across MG road and a few other crowded areas, just to show people there is an active cyclist community and also have some publicity for Trek cycles!! You can sell more, it would also be nice to see more cyclists.

I second Dheeraj. Great idea. I am sure Trek will sponsor such an event (Trek T-shirt! Cool ...). Even if they do not, I am sure it could be held under the BumsontheSaddle aegis. Won't cost you much and the publicity would be worth the effort.

I've just read about the cyclists in Bangalore on the BBC website in the UK and applaud you for what you are doing. One thing you might like to look at is the Ciclovia developed in Bogota, Columbia which is starting to be picked up by many other cities around the world. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/7130418.stm http://www.streetsblog.org/2007/12/03/ciclovia-a-moving-experience-in-bogota For your cycle parking project, based on our experience in the UK it looks like you have come up with what we found the best solution - what we call the Sheffield Stand (because its made in Sheffield, the old centre of the steel industry). The Cambridge Cycling Campaign has a web page on the good and bad designs that are available in the UK that might be interesting. In Cambridge about 35% of journeys to work are now made by bicycle. http://www.camcycle.org.uk/resources/cycleparking/types/ In campaigning for facilities be very cautious. You might enjoy the Warrington Cycling Campaign website which has catalogued some of the facilities foisted on cyclists by non-cyclist designers in the UK. Even in Cambridge with its high cycling levels, the Cambridge Cycling Campaign has to spend a lot of time making sure that facilities that are installed are fit for purpose against the tendency of the local council. You might also like to read the excellent Wikipedia entry on segregated cycle facilities which sets out the advantages and disadvantages that have been found from experience elsewhere before you decide whether they are suitable for your city. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pete.meg/wcc/facility-of-the-month/September2007.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bike_path All the best Tony Raven

Hey Rohan, I regularly visit your blog for a bunch of reasons. One, that it is such a breath of fresh air. And two, I like your business model, where you retain your day jobs, and pursue your passion in the evenings, while making money of it. Also what fascinates me is that your model is perfectly timed with the increasing wealth and desire to invest in toys and leisure, and afford the luxury of fitness in the Indian context. You are a source of my learning. Go for it! Soc

hey Biker, can you please email us at admin@bumsonthesaddle.com so that we can get back to you about the Trek 8000.
  • ROhan Kini on 25 Dec 20:25

Hey Harsha :) Sorry man. We started the bike store a year back, much after the UK stint. Althought seeing all the cool bikes in the UK did fuel my passion for making nice bikes available to folks here !! Thanks for the kind words about the site ;)
  • ROhan Kini on 25 Dec 20:34

Dheeraj, Amitabh good ideas. Some one else had also suggested a city race or a city trip where we ride across the city and stop at various offices to just speak out for cycling. Sure. We can get T Shirts made. Would be really nice.
